In August, my whole family, aunts, uncles, cousins, grandparents (about 40 of us) took an Alaskan cruise (from Anchorage to Vancouver) with Princess Cruises. Here’s the exact cruise that we did. One-way Alaskan Cruise (Anchorage to Vancouver) .
WHAT TO PACK:
winter/spring clothes. In August, the temp only gets up to about 55/60 degrees Fahrenheit and its never sunny.
Bathing Suit. There are hot tubs on the cruise ship.
Rain Jacket. Anything that will keep you dry. It rains there a lot, and when it’s not raining, the air is damp.
Dress/Suit. You should bring at least one nice outfit to wear for the captains dinner while on the cruise ship.
WINE. Each person (of legal drinking age) is allowed to bring a bottle of wine onto the cruise ship (checked in luggage bag). Drinks are expensive on the ship so take advantage of this opportunity. You can also do like me: buy it at a port and sneak it back on the ship in your pants. But if you get caught, they take it and throw it out.
To get to Alaska, we flew into Fairbanks and got to explore the town. There’s a lot to do here- ATV riding, white water rafting, or just looking at the beautiful scenery, (Alaska is like another world). We also took a Mt. Denali Tour, which is an all-day deal, but a must-do when in AK. We also took an Alyeska pipeline/ pan for gold tour. This was very informational and I enjoyed it.
MT. DENALI NATIONAL PARK
TRAIN RIDE FROM FAIRBANKS TO ANCHORAGE
Hiking, shopping, fishing. The trail head is very close to the port making it easy to hike to lower Dewey Lake, and upper Dewey Lake if you’re up for it.
In Juneau, you can see Mendenhall glacier and Nugget falls. This is also the best place to go on a whale watching boat.
Mostly for the women- I highly advise seeing a lumberjack show while in AK. Lumberjacking is actually considered a sport here and colleges actually give scholarships for their lumberjack teams. AND you get to meet these hunks afterwards 🙂
Glacier Bay (while cruising)
Last Stop: VANCOUVER
Vancouver is huge and kind of like New York City. I suggest jumping on the subway and exploring China town. We didn’t have much time to explore here because we had a flight to catch.
